Katana 76 - Chapter 3. Sinking

A girl cries alone in a dark room, hugging with her whole body the pillow that was once his brother's, soaking it with her feelings.
Silence grows for a few seconds, letting in three sad voices from the room below, the same one where she was just a few minutes ago.
The girl sank her head into the pillow, trying to mute the heart-tearing scream she was about to let out before starting to wail once again.

*A few minutes ago*
… …
… … …

"Say it again, clearly."
Four persons sat around the table, but there was a clear separation between three of them and the target of their gazes.
"Tell me what happened to my son."
In the center of the group, a grown and mature version of Rikan stared at Kilan. To her right, a sweet young woman a few years older than him tried to keep her composure, but the tears were already running down her cheeks, and to her right sat Rikan, not making any effort to hide her killing instinct.

Kilan took a few seconds to construct his sentence.
"Kanan dies yesterday. He gave his life so I could live..."

Feliziel broke down, letting cries out as her body slowly fell to the table. Her fist started to softly hit the table accompanied only by the flow of her sobs.

"Why the fuck do you believe in him!? He has no proof!"
Rikan, who had enough of seeing her loved ones suffer, rose up to her feet after hitting the table, but Kilan's only response was redirecting his gaze to her mother.

"Dear, this young man can't lie, a curse prohibits him from doing so."
"If you are a demon you should be able to feel it too."

Rikan had never felt a curse before, but the feeling that ran through her body when she found him in the forest landed on her mind... Even if the situation was extraordinary, the sense of danger she felt and resolve to kill that clouded her mind were not normal... Was that how curses felt?

"But... No, this has to be a joke, right? I'm sure Kanan's laughing his ass off at me upstairs. Well, it's not funny! You hear me!?"
"Dear..."

The girl looked at her mother expecting her to calm down, but instead, she saw an expression she had never seen on her mother's face before.
The mother, who had tried to be strong, be the support of the family in these hard times, but when she saw her daughter's confused and frustrated face the dam she had constructed started to crack, and her efforts only served to make the inevitable even stronger. The poor woman brought her hands to her face in a futile attempt to hide her face from her child and suppress the unstoppable wails of sorry her heart was uncontrollably pouring out.

"You're all laughing at me, right?? That's why you're all hiding your faces! It's not-!"

Rikan pulled Feliziiel from the shoulder, who had been hiding her face against the table all this time, and in her face, she saw it all. Fear, sadness, agony, pain, everything reflected in her honest face full of tears...

… … …
… …

In tears, the girl woke up, still clinging to the pillow, but she didn't see any reason to stand up.
Steps could be heard going out of the home, but they didn't reach the girl, she was too busy listening to her own bawls.
