Katana 76 - Chapter 6. Embrace.

The girl ran clumsily through the forest, hugging a bloodsoaked sword, trying desperately to keep her body from falling just as the streams that ran through her chicks were doing. Sadly, her clouded eyes failed to warn her legs about a mischievous root that couldn't read the mood and, along with her tears, she feel.

She couldn't find the strength to stand up again, the pain on her chest wouldn't let her, and it wasn't just the pain from the handle of her sword pressing against her, it was something else, something that had been thrust in there since she heard Kilan's words. It was the feeling of betrayal, alongside an immense, agonising fear like she had never felt before.

With a scream, she tried to separate herself from the floor, she had to keep running away from that thing, but the ground was soaked with her tears, making it impossible for her trembling body. She crawled towards a tree and tried to help herself with it to stand up, but it seemed like her tears had reached the surface of this tree too, but after a few seconds of struggle she was again on her feet.

"Rikan! Is that you?"

She finally noticed the cries her mother had been letting out since she fell, as well as the rain that had probably been pouring even before that.

"Mom!"
"Oh dear, thank the stars you're safe!"

She nested herself into her mother's embrace, shielded by it from the rain, and started to cry once again.

"Don't worry dear, you're safe now, Momy is here... come on, let's go back to the village."

The mother tried to begin her march towards their home, but her child's claws firmly grabbing her back made it impossible.

"Mom... It was him... he killed K..."
"...You mean the one Kilan is fighting?"
"No... it was... it was Kilan... he..."
"Did the angel tell you that?"
"No... he told me himself... I was so scared..."
"But that's... We have to go back to the village dear."

The mother freed herself from the child's clutches, starting her walk home, dragging her by the arm.

"Wait... Wait!"

The child freed herself from her mother's clutches, stopping her walk home, dragging her by the arm

"How can you... HOW CAN YOU BE SO CALM ABOUT THIS!?"
"..."
"We had K's killer sit at our table... We tended to his wounds... and you don't care?"

The mother kept facing the rain, unable to look at her child's face.

"Did you already know!? And you didn't-"

Her mother turned, and hidden in her rain-soaked face her tears screamed 'Sorry for what I'm about to do' as she embraced her.

"I love you."

As those words reached her, she started to feel her consciousness leave her body as she sank into her mother's embrace once again. 'I'm so sorry... I wish there was any other option...'.
